This commitment was on full display at the Society of Women Engineers’ (SWE) WE25 Conference where BD earned multiple awards. The accolades reflect both excellence and innovation, from groundbreaking patents to rising leaders shaping the future of engineering, and our commitment to creating an environment where everyone feels valued, supported and empowered to do their best work, transforming healthcare around the world.

Gold Mission Recognition Award
BD was one of just five organizations that received the Gold Mission Recognition Award. This award celebrates organizations that exemplify SWE’s core values and demonstrate continuous improvement in advancing STEM. For BD, this award highlights the efforts of the Women’s Initiative Network Associate Resource Group and underscores our commitment to fostering an inclusive culture and driving initiatives that contribute to meaningful innovation.
SWE Patent Recognition Award

Eight BD associates were honored with SWE’s Patent Recognition Award, which celebrates members who have been granted patents in engineering, technology or related sciences within the past three years. Collectively, these innovators were recognized for 33 new patents, showcasing our focus on advancing healthcare through purpose-driven solutions:
- Lisa Bailey, Sr Staff Engineer, Product Development from Salt Lake City, Utah – 6 patents
- Emily Goel, R&D Product Manager from Tempe, Ariz. – 1 patent
- Kelly Hon, Sr Manager, Product Development Engineering from San Diego, Calif. – 2 patents
- Claire Knight, Sr Manager, Medical Affairs from San Diego, Calif. – 2 patents
- Melody Kuroda, Staff Engineer II from Durham, N.C. – 1 patent
- Caroline Ottinger, Clinical Manager, Specimen Management from Covington, Ga. – 1 patent
- Clémentine Le Loc’h, Manager R&D from Le Pont-de-Claix, France – 14 patents
- Janice Pak, Staff Engineer from Brea, Calif. – 6 patents
New Professional Member Engineer Award
WIN member Alice Connelli, Senior R&D Engineer, received SWE’s Esteemed New Professional Member Engineer Award. The organization recognized Alice for her outstanding contributions to the engineering field, leadership within SWE, and her dedication to serving the broader community. Alice has made a lasting impact through her work in engineering and community engagement:
- She has led innovative projects focused on advanced tissue regeneration and been awarded multiple patents for her work.
- Alice has championed STEM engagement by holding leadership roles within the Society of Women Engineers and our BD Women’s Initiative Network Associate Resource Group, developing programming at BD in North America for STEM Day and Engineers Week, and mentoring collegiate students to inspire the next generation of innovators.
- Her influence extends globally as she orchestrated the global implementation of the BD R&D Day of Giving, mobilizing more than 1,000 associates across 19 sites to volunteer in support of local causes.
