Act locally – reach globally.
The Human Rights Campaign Foundation (HRC) – one of the largest LGBT+ and civil rights advocacy groups in the world – today named BD to its annual 2019 Best Places to Work for LGBTQ Equality list of recommended employers.
Proudly, BD has once again – for the second year in a row – earned a perfect score (100%) on the organization’s Corporate Equality Index, which is the national benchmarking tool on corporate policies and practices pertinent to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer employees.
Employers that are featured in this report have taken steps to ensure greater equity for LGBT+ workers through non-discriminatory company policies, provide access to equitable benefits for workers and their families, offer internal education and accountability to promote inclusion, and have made a public commitment to greater equality.
At BD, we believe that by acting locally and reaching globally, we demonstrate our commitment to civil and human rights and support the company’s mission to make cultural diversity an asset. One of the steps BD has taken to reinforce this commitment is by joining the HRC’s Business Coalition for the Equality Act – a group of leading employers in the U.S. that support federal legislation that would provide the same basic protections to LGBT+ people as are provided to other protected groups under federal law. And, the company has publicly endorsed the United Nations Standards of Conduct for Business, which encourage businesses to affect positive social change in the communities where they do business, foster diversity and promote a culture of respect and equality.
The company’s Associate Resource Group, OPEN (Out and Proud Employee Network), is a leading force in embracing and inspiring the LGBT+ community within BD, helping associates thrive both in the workplace through education, celebratory events, opportunity and acceptance, and outside the workplace through acts of service and corporate advocacy.
As an organization, we will continue to make strides towards equality, focusing on the standards of conduct put forth by the UN and continuing to collaborate with partners like the Human Rights Campaign and other LGBT+-inclusive organizations.
Jonathan is the Director of U.S. Region Customer Marketing at BD and co-leader of the company’s Associate Resource Group, OPEN.
