With continuous pressure on our natural resources and the predicted impacts of climate change, it is important that we create a supply chain and operations model that is adaptable to disruption and that we continue to explore opportunities for environmental improvements across our value chain. We understand that the health of the planet is linked to the health of the people, and by reducing our impact on the environment, and creating resilient operations, we are helping to ensure health systems around the world remain strong, and critical health products are delivered where they are needed most.

The strategy that we put into place five years ago has directly contributed to more efficient operations and a reduction of energy consumption. We are diversifying our energy supply with installations of combined heat and power and by sourcing more renewable energy; this has helped to protect ourselves against volatility in the energy market which could result in increased operational costs. Greenhouse gas emissions reduction is of increasing importance to our customers and communication of our activities in this area has enabled new dialogue – and in some cases, these conversations have led to collaboration on further environmental improvements.

Since announcing our 2020 goals in 2015, our business has grown significantly – in part due to two major acquisitions, CareFusion and C. R. Bard. In this time, we’ve continued to make progress in reducing our environmental footprint on a per unit basis, through investments and continuous improvement.
