At BD, we understand the importance of honoring veterans and the military community for their sacrifice and service to our nation. For us, that honor translates into action - creating policies and programs that offer transitioning service members equitable career opportunities and an inclusive work environment where they are valued and supported.
We are honored to be recognized and named to the 2022 Military Times list of Best for Vets Employers. The listing is based on an independent survey of more than 230 organizations, of which 175 made the list. The editorially independent survey measures 10 key performance indicators, analyzing a company’s efforts to recruit, retain, and support current and former service members, military spouses, and military caregivers.
“Veterans and service men and women lead from the front with inherent critical-thinking and problem-solving skills and a team-based mindset,” said Nicole Thompson, Vice President – Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Engagement at BD. “Here, they’ve already earned a seat at our table and are empowered to speak up and contribute. Their unique perspectives, approach and military experience translate seamlessly into our organization, allowing us to solve some of the most complex healthcare challenges and advance our leadership in the MedTech industry.”
The BD Veterans Employee and Troop Support (VETS) Associate Resource Group (ARG) provides support, professional development and networking opportunities for associates and members. Through our partnership with various veterans’ support organizations, such as the Travis Manion Foundation, BD offers training in self-development, leadership, well-being and volunteer opportunities. To attract and retain top veteran talent, the VETS ARG partners with the Department of Defense (DOD) Skillbridge program and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s Hiring Our Heroes Program to assist veterans transitioning from the military to civilian careers.
“As new veteran associates join BD, we strive to create a sense of belonging on day one,” said Joe Prati – Western Area PIVO Specialist at BD and Co-Lead of VETS ARG. “As a veteran, I know first-hand how important it is to have the support of like-minded individuals to help transition from military to civilian work, and access to programs and resources to ensure success. When new associates become members of the VETS ARG, they are paired with local BD VETS members and are invited to VETS ARG chapter-sponsored events. We’re building the bridge of community as soon as they walk through our doors.”
The purpose of the Military Times Best For Vets Employers ranking is to show the different employment practices, policies and services that companies provide to U.S. veterans, as well as to provide veterans with a trusted list of the top employers for their needs.
In addition to this accolade, in 2022 BD has also been named a Forbes’ World’s Best Employer, Forbes’ Best Employer for Diversity and Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality among other celebrated recognitions.
