Alexandria, VA — November 20, 2025 — The National Association of Free and Charitable Clinics (NAFC) and MedShare International today announced the deployment of 92 new portable Site-Rite Halcyon™ Ultrasound System units and 184 probes, valued at more than $2.6 million, to free and charitable clinics across 30 states. The donation by BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company), a leading global medical technology company, will provide clinics with much needed imaging technology to improve care for underserved patients.
Clinics were selected based on NAFC’s annual data survey and direct conversations with clinic leaders to ensure these devices were delivered where the need was greatest. The donation, the largest single donation of medical equipment ever administered by MedShare in the U.S., is expected to have immediate impact in two critical areas:
- Women’s Health (OBGYN Services) – Supporting early detection, monitoring and maternal care.
- Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) Care – Expanding access to diagnostic tools for a serious condition that can lead to severe complications if untreated.
For rural patients, access to advanced diagnostic imaging is often limited by distance, cost and a shortage of local specialists. Without onsite tools, many individuals are forced to travel long distances or rely on overcrowded emergency departments for care that could have been provided earlier and more affordably in their community. By equipping free and charitable clinics with portable ultrasound machines, this donation expands access to diagnostic tools, helping support better health outcomes through timely care and improved monitoring.
To ensure clinics can use the ultrasound equipment effectively and sustainably, MedShare’s Biomedical Services Team delivered customized, virtual training to more than 120 clinicians across 30 states. These sessions included real-time product demonstrations and interactive Q&A, allowing providers to share knowledge and learn from one another. In addition, MedShare is supporting clinics with installation, use and ongoing maintenance training—an especially critical resource for rural clinics that often lack in-house biomedical expertise.
“At the NAFC, our priority is ensuring patients in underserved communities have access to high-quality, compassionate care,” said Ariana Gordillo de Vivero, Senior Director of Strategic Initiative at the NAFC. “This generous donation from BD, with the technical expertise and training provided by MedShare, means clinics across the country now have critical imaging technology that may help improve health outcomes for millions of patients.”
Jason Chernock, MedShare Director of Programs added. “MedShare is committed to improving access to maternal healthcare across the United States. This incredible partnership will increase access to critical imaging services among charitable clinics by over 400%. By training and supporting clinicians, MedShare is ensuring the ultrasound units remain cared for well into the future.”
This generous partnership highlights NAFC’s ongoing mission to advance health equity by equipping free and charitable clinics with resources and tools that help patients, particularly those in rural and underserved communities, receive the care they deserve.
