Celebrating Martin Luther King Jr. with a day of service
BD Grants and Volunteer Service Administrator

For the last six years, in recognition of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, BD employees across the country have joined together in a nationwide service event to pack shelf-stable meals for Rise Against Hunger, to be delivered to people in-need around the world.

To date, BD employees have packed 730,000 highly nutritious, dehydrated meals comprised of rice, soy, vegetables and 23 essential vitamins and minerals – and those meals have been delivered to the hungry in more than 20 countries. Come January 20, 2020, the company hopes to contribute its one millionth meal to Rise Against Hunger from 16 U.S. BD facility locations.

Participating BD employees serve as volunteer coordinators, recruiting others and helping Rise Against Hunger set up assembly lines and packaging stations. In some locations, the company’s associate resource groups – including the Women’s Initiative Network (WIN) and African Americans at BD (AABD) – are taking a lead role in planning and organizing local Rise Against Hunger events.

We look forward to coming together on January 20 to work toward our goal of 1 million meals for 2020!
