Meet the 2020 Life-Changers: Tse-Sheng Ling

As the year 2020 comes to a close, we’re celebrating our winners of the Jeffrey Sherman Life-Changers Award – a prestigious BD award that recognizes associates who are making a lasting impact on those around them, both through what they do at work and outside of work. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing stories about our five 2020 winners and the incredible impact they’re having on those around them.

Here, we introduce our first Life-Changers winner: Tse-Sheng Ling, who works as a Diagnostics Field Service Manager for BD Life Sciences – Integrated Diagnostic Solutions, in Australia and New Zealand.

A former “BD Rookie of the Year,” Tse-Sheng currently manages a highly motivated team of 11 engineers across Australia and New Zealand – and those within the company who nominated him for this award say he’s never afraid to challenge his colleagues to find ways to add more value for our customers. Tse-Sheng puts his team first, acknowledging accomplishments, inspiring them to do their best, and providing opportunities to grow.

Outside of BD, Tse-Sheng has selflessly served the Country Fire Authority in Australia as a volunteer firefighter for 15 years. His colleagues recall many instances when Tse-Sheng was called out in the middle of the night to fight a fire, after working a full day at BD – only to return to work early the next morning. He also spent a summer “vacation” in East Gippsland, Victoria, fighting the Black Saturday bushfires of 2009.

During the devastating 2019-2020 Australia Bushfires, Tse-Sheng spent countless hours away from his wife and five children, including Christmas and New Year’s Day, as he lived in a temporary tent city and risked his life to protect families, animals, communities and millions of hectares of land from certain destruction.

This commitment to putting others first, and to going above and beyond to treat others how he would want to be treated, flows through to the team he manages, his customers, and ultimately to the patients BD serves.

In honor of the life-changing impact Tse-Sheng has on his colleagues at BD and the world around him, BD is donating $5,000 to a non-profit organization of his choice: The Follow Bless Collective, which provides food and friendship to those in need in Tse-Sheng’s community.
